Zusammenfassung
After the death of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, his devious son takes power and demotes Maximus, one of Rome's most capable generals who Marcus preferred. Eventually, Maximus is forced to become a gladiator and battle to the death against other men for the amusement of paying audiences.

Mein Kommentar
Perhaps my score is biased as this movie ignites in me a certain emotional response. When I was a boy, it broke my heart to see commodus learning of Lucila's betrayal and the pretorians killing cicero. The scene of the Roman victory at Vindobonna and the unveiling of Maximus' identity are two of my favorite scenes ever.
