First of four stages on a 15-day west-coast loop in October 2014 — rental car the whole way. We barely stayed in LA: picked up the car and drove south to San Diego for two days. Shoreline along the Midway, went aboard the USS Midway — I absolutely love it — and took the bay cruise past the navy base: carriers, submarines, I loved it. Also the Hotel del Coronado. Then inland through Calico Ghost Town and a night in Flagstaff. Came back to San Diego in September 2025 and stayed at Loews Coronado. Next stage: Flagstaff to Mammoth Lakes.

    The cruise that lets you see the navy base. I loved it — many aircraft carriers and submarines.
