Ushuaia
Late April 2008. We flew to Ushuaia from Buenos Aires and stayed at a very nice hotel whose name I can't remember. Martial Glacier, a drive to Bahía Lapataia, a Beagle Channel cruise out to the lighthouse at the end of the world, the prison, the little End of the World train, a couple of beaver dams and the turba fields. I didn't like the city that much — cables hanging in the air, and it didn't have the winter-wonderland charm I had imagined. I felt sad that the city was taking forest off the mountain. The electronics industry was starting to boom, but it was still based mostly in Río Grande. The weather was always windy and cloudy, often foggy.
