The Dead Hand

This book was revealing of the extent by which the US and the Soviet Union engaged in advanced weapons programs with enormous destructive capacity. I found the testimonies and the depth of the journalism work awe-inspiring. I was surprised by how the level of communication between the top-leadership of both countries directly influenced each nation's commitment of resources to military buildup. A humbling lesson that even, and perhaps especially, when stakes are so high it is worthwhile to pick up the phone and openly discuss differences.
