Morro de São Paulo
Four days immediately after Salvador carnival, February 2018. We sailed over from the city — catamaran, then the island: Segunda and Quarta Praia, Gamboa, and the boat party that leaves from the pier. No cars, warm water, and the comedown from the circuit.

Four days after the MP and the crowd. The village is sand alleys, pousadas, and music that is still Bahian but at human volume. A good place to sleep again.
- Recreational
Segunda Praia
Visited: Feb 15, 2018
How I got there: Walk — Walked from the village over the headland to the second beach.

The beach you come for: warm water, a wide arc, and the days stretching. After Salvador this is the point of the island.
- Recreational
Quarta Praia
Visited: Feb 16, 2018
How I got there: Walk — Walked on from Segunda along the beaches — the fourth is quieter and further out.

The wide, quieter beach at the end of the chain. Fewer bars than Segunda, more water and space. Worth the walk or the tractor-taxi if the sun is high.

Boat party from the pier
Visited: Feb 16, 2018
How I got there: Boat — Leaves from the pier at Primeira Praia — you buy the ticket in the village and board there.

The island's floating circuit: a boat out from the pier, music, and the bay at sunset. After Salvador carnival it feels small and friendly — still a party, just one you can leave.
- Recreational
Gamboa
Visited: Feb 17, 2018
How I got there: Boat — Boat or the trail over to Gamboa, on the other side of the island.

A calmer village and beach than Morro itself — fishing boats, shallower water, a different pace. A good half-day away from Segunda.
